The Ancestors of Bob and Virginia

The ancestors of Robert and Virginia Ruffin Crilley lived through many of the exciting periods of American history.

Our CRILLEY family originated in Ireland, migrated to Lancashire, England, and around 1870, William F. (the first member of this branch) came to Western Pennsylvania and worked in the coal mines . There he married Mary Virginia Pulliam who had come with her brothers North from Fredericksburg after the Civil War.

Our PULLIAM -Trussler family has been difficult to trace although the roots are in Virginia near Fredericksburg. The surnames are not clear Pullem, Pullom as well as Pulliam. The marriage took place across the Potomac in Maryland, and the brides name was either Trussler or Truslow.

Our HOEY (HOY) family originally came from Ireland to Pennsylvania around 1770. They were farmers who were some of the first settlers in Westmoreland County (western PA)

The RUFFIN family probably originated from the Ruthven family of Scotland migrating to this country as early as the 1670's.

Our JINKS family originally came from South Carolina, but research has only gotten back to Talbot Co, GA around 1833. They were cotton farmers, and some family members moved to Ellis Co, Texas around 1884.

Our GRIMES family is thought to be of German origin, although we can only trace it back to North Carolina/Tennessee around 1800. It was one of the first families settling in Austin's second colony in Texas around 1826.
