Drumming is an ancient tribal practice used for special occasions. The timbre of a prepared gourd gives a strong, mellow sound which resonates well. Dampening and tuning are made easier with quality hideskin.

.

African slaves introduced the shekere (pronounced SHAH-KEY-RA) into the Western Hemisphere.  Today, the skekere is popular in South & Central American music.  Play by tossing or twisting a beaded netting upon the gourd surface.
